Safety is the first priority for everyone at Emirates Global Aluminium, no matter their role in the organization. Zero harm to our staff, contractors and neighbours is the only acceptable target.

EGA’s safety performance compares favourably to global industry benchmarks. Our Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate in 2019 was 1.9  per million hours worked, compared to 1.27  in 2018.

The global average Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate for members of the International Aluminium Institute in 2018 was 3.4  per million hours worked.

We gather data to identify the key hazards on our sites and systematically eliminate them from our operations.

In 2016 we developed nine Life Saving Rules for staff to follow that are simple and clear.

We closely track near misses to ensure that we take swift action to learn from any potential incident and share the lessons across our company.

Near miss reporting is actively encouraged across our operations, with the rates of reporting compared against averages in our company and in the industry to identify where further improvements are required.

We benchmark our safety performance and share details of incidents and near misses with other industrial companies through trade associations and other bodies.

Any incident is appropriately investigated to identify what went wrong and establish how similar incidents can be prevented in the future.

All new recruits to EGA undergo health and safety training, which is complemented by on-the-job training.

All EGA contractors and sub-contractors are also required to comply with EGA’s health and safety processes and procedures.

EGA is certified to Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSAS) 18001 and at Al Taweelah we are certified by Abu Dhabi Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHAD).

EGA is a member of the International Aluminium Institute and the Gulf Aluminium Council Environment, Health and Safety Committees.

We believe safety processes and procedures alone are not enough.

We work hard to instil a culture of safety throughout our organization, from the C-suite to the shop floor.

Management takes on the responsibility of shaping and helping to create a culture where people care about their safety and that of everyone around them.

We nurture this culture by regularly conducting training, auditing and safety campaigns.

Our Al Taweelah facility set an industry record in 2014 when it achieved more than 16.3 million operational work hours without a single lost time incident. This is equivalent to one person working more than 7,000 years without an accident.
