Industrial giant employs 434 women in United Arab Emirates and Guinea
United Arab Emirates, 31 October 2016: Emirates Global Aluminium (“EGA”) has completed a campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer amongst its employees and provide free screening at EGA medical facilities, as well as raise funds for cancer research and treatment for underprivileged women.
EGA is a significant employer of women, with 434 female employees across its operations in the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Guinea. October is international Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The EGA campaign included free breast cancer screening at EGA’s on site medical facilities at Jebel Ali, Al Taweelah and in Guinea, as well as awareness and social events on a Pink Day. EGA’s female employees and the company raised AED 40,000 for Friends of Cancer Patients during the campaign.
This year was the eighth time EGA has run a breast cancer campaign amongst staff in the UAE and the second time in Guinea.
Khalid Essa Buhumaid (Senior Vice President, Government Relations) said, “The health and safety of our employees is EGA’s priority. Experts tell us that in our region breast cancers are too often detected only at an advanced stage. Awareness and screening will help tackle this problem. As an employer of hundreds of women, EGA has an opportunity to help both within the company and in the wider community.”
