EGA to help Dubai raise project management profile

UAE’s industrial flagship a strategic sponsor of first DIPMF

UAE-based aluminium giant Emirates Global Aluminium PJSC (“EGA”) will showcase the value of project management excellence in its operations, and the strong emergence of the discipline in the UAE, by sponsoring the first Dubai International Project Management Forum (“DIPMF”) which takes place on 29 and 30 September 2014. Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council), the DIPMF has been organised by the Roads and Transport Authority (“RTA”), in cooperation with the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (“DEWA”), Emaar Properties, and the Project Management Institute (“PMI”).

EGA is the jointly-owned aluminium conglomerate formed by Mubadala Development Corporation and Investment Corporation of Dubai by combining their respective aluminium industry assets. EGA’s core operating assets are Dubai Aluminium PJSC (“DUBAL”) and Emirates Aluminium Company Limited PJSC (“EMAL”). As strategic sponsor of DIPMF, EGA will play a leading role at the event. The company will have a stand at the forum’s exhibition, where the focus will be on EGA’s status as “a leading global producer, built on a legacy of excellence”. EGA’s Yousuf Bastaki (Senior Vice President, Projects) will participate in a panel discussion on UAE Mega Projects. He will share the company’s experience and expertise in project managing the construction and commissioning of EMAL Phase I and Phase II – both phases were completed ahead of schedule, within budget and with superb safety performance records

Abdulla Kalban (Managing Director & CEO of EGA) says that excellent project management has been critical in the growth and development of the business over the years. “In 1979, the fledgling DUBAL smelter had a production capacity of 135,000 tonnes per year. Today, DUBAL’s capacity is over 1 million tonnes. EMAL, which was built between 2007 and mid-2014, has a capacity of more than 1.3 million tonnes. This gives EGA a production capacity of over 2.4 million tonnes per year, putting it firmly in the ranks of the world’s top four aluminium producers,” he explains. “EGA is built on a commitment to excellence in every aspect. Innovation and continuous improvement have contributed to us achieving our on-going growth aspirations, with the highest standards of project management expertise leading to the successful establishment of EGA as a major global player.”
