Emirates Global Aluminium receives top team from Aluminium Bahrain BSC

Successful development and deployment of top-performing, high amperage smelting technologies showcased in Abu Dhabi

United Arab Emirates: Abdulla Kalban (Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer) and the executive team of the UAE’s industrial giant Emirates Global Aluminium PJSC (“EGA”) hosted H E Sheikh Daij Bin Salman Bin Daij Al Khalifa (Chairman) and Tim Murray (Chief Executive Officer) of Aluminium Bahrain BSC (“Alba”) at EGA operating subsidiary Emirates Aluminium (“EMAL”) in Al Taweelah, Abu Dhabi on 20 November. The focus of the visit was EGA’s high amperage, best in class DX+ Technology, which is installed in the 444 reduction cells housed in EMAL Phase II (Potline 3) and was specified by Alba for its Line 6 Bankable Feasibility study in December 2012.

Before taking their guests on a tour of EMAL’s Potlines 1 & 2, where EGA’s DX Technology is installed in 756 reduction cells, executives and senior managers of EGA and EMAL delivered in-depth presentations on EGA’s track record for in-house development of top-performing, energy-efficient and environment-friendly reduction cell technologies. The scope covered both DX Technology and DX+ Technology. Information was also shared on the benchmark safety and start-up records notched up during the construction and commissioning stages of EMAL Phase I and Phase II. Superb project management led to EMAL Phase I and Phase II being fully commissioned ahead of schedule, giving earlier than planned returns on the investment; and the production yield and other performance indicators continue to exceeded expectations. Excellent safety and environmental performances have been achieved and sustained since operations began.

“We are immensely proud of EMAL, which began operating just five years ago but is already one of the world’s largest aluminium smelters thanks to its annual production capacity of 1.3 million tonnes,” Kalban said. “We are equally proud of our proprietary reduction cell technologies, which are operating stably on massive industrial scale. We are honoured to have had this opportunity to share the latest performance statistics of both DX and DX+ Technology with our friends from Alba.”
