New aluminium conglomerate sponsors 2014 Ideas.Arabia International Conference
Emirates Global Aluminium (“EGA”) – the jointly-owned, UAE-based aluminium conglomerate formed by Mubadala Development Corporation and Investment Corporation of Dubai – has continued its support for innovation and continuous improvement by sponsoring the 9th Ideas.Arabia International Conference in Dubai. The event takes place from 22 to 23 April 2014 at The Palace Hotel Downtown under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. EGA’s involvement in the annual Ideas.Arabia International Conference extends existing relationships whereby Dubai Aluminium PJSC (“DUBAL”) – which will become an operating subsidiary of EGA on the latter’s incorporation – was the main sponsor of the event on five occasions (2006, 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2012) and the platinum sponsor of the 8th Ideas.Arabia International Conference in 2013.
Ideas Arabia - under the umbrella of Dubai Quality Group (“DQG”) - promotes innovation to enhance business competitiveness through a forum of companies that share best practice. The main objective of Ideas Arabia is to create an awareness of the scheme, implementation, evaluation process, award structure, audit system, and benchmarking statistics which would effectively improve the business profits and quality of services. The two-day conference will have both Arabic and English presentations conducted by experts in the field from around the world, with live translation.
The annual Ideas.Arabia Conference also provides a forum for the Ideas.Arabia ‘Idea of the Year’ competition, which aims to recognise the most significant ideas implemented by organizations throughout the calendar year. In addition, the competition gives participating organizations an opportunity to benchmark against other leading organizations.
Commenting on the sponsorship, Abdulla Kalban (CEO & MD of EGA) says, “Continuous improvement through innovation has been inherent in the corporate culture of EGA’s two core operating subsidiaries – DUBAL and Emirates Aluminium (“EMAL”) – since their inception, It’s a culture that has been leveraged through encouraging our employees to identify better and safer ways of operating the businesses. Indeed, DUBAL is a regional pioneer of employee involvement programmes: its award-winning Suggestion Scheme has not only operated very successfully since May 1981, but has also served as a model for a large number of organizations, both locally and internationally.
“The value-add of employee involvement is substantial: the cumulative savings arising from implemented suggestions at DUBAL has exceeded AED 175 million over the scheme’s 33-year history. The implementation of employees’ ideas has also added immeasurable value in terms of positive morale, loyalty and productivity,” Kalban adds. “EGA aims to sustain this performance-based work culture, where individuals are empowered through ownership, accountability and team support – the combination enabling EGA to excel in its operations through continuous improvement and innovation.”
